This french recipe is an easy preparation of thickly sliced bread soaked in a sweetened, custard mixture and then fried in butter. "Pain Perdu" literally means "lost bread" and is used in reference to using day-old bread that would otherwise be lost.
- Ingredients
8 slices of bread
2 eggs
40 g of brown sugar
30 g of butter
300 ml of milk
½ tsp. of cinnamon or vanilla
- Direction
Preheat nonstick griddle or skillet over medium heat.
Beat eggs very well, add sugar, cinnamon and milk.
Coat bread thoroughly in the mixture.
Lightly butter hot pan, add bread to the pan and cook slowly, 3 or 4 minutes on each side, 2 to 3 slices at a time.
Serve hot with sugar, strawberries or even better with your favourite toppings!
Bon appétit!
